We all know by now that the California Governor’s race is getting a lot of national attention — it’s a jungle primary, so the top two vote-getters advance to the general, and they can be from any party. And right now, there’s a possibility two Republicans advance. The three Democrats who are viable are Xavier Becerra (who I’ve already spoken to, that link is below), billionaire Tom Steyer, and former member of the House of Representatives Katie Porter. The debates don’t really provide candidates with enough time to answer in-depth questions, so I brought yours to the two I could get in touch with.
Here’s what I asked Katie (I sourced these questions from CA voters on social, these were the top questions for her specifically):
How would she handle the homelessness problem?
What are you going to do about affordable housing (both owning and renting) beyond just increasing supply?
What steps will you take to ensure ICE is held accountable for their behavior in California?
How should people think about questions about your temperament?
How will you hold power companies (PGE/Edison) accountable for their role in wildfires?
What is your stance on data centers and AI regulation?
How would she handle the film industry crisis?
Thoughts on redistricting after the SCOTUS ruling on the Voting Rights Act
Here’s the interview with Xavier Becerra
